British PM Rishi Sunak says, China poses biggest threat to global security

 

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stressed that China presents the greatest challenge to global security and prosperity during a Group of Seven (G7) summit. He said, 'China poses the biggest challenge of our age to global security and prosperity. They are increasingly authoritarian at home and assertive abroad.' Sunak emphasized that leading economies, including Britain and other G7 nations, should not aim for complete decoupling from China. Instead, they should adopt a unified approach to mitigate the challenges posed by China. "We are focused on de-risking, not de-coupling," Sunak stated. He further explained that the G7 countries are taking measures to prevent China from utilizing economic coercion to interfere in the sovereign affairs of other nations.

Congress picks UT Khader for Karnataka speaker post, say TV reports

 

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader UT Khader is set to become the speaker of the Karnataka assembly, according to television reports. The party high command has reportedly approved Khader's nomination for the position.
Khader (53) has previously served as the deputy opposition leader in the assembly. If appointed, he would be the first individual from a minority community to hold the post of speaker.
State party in-charge Randeep Surjewala and national general secretary KC Venugopal recently met with Khader, a five-time MLA, to discuss the matter. Khader is expected to submit his nomination for the speaker's post today, and if necessary, the election will be held on Wednesday.
Earlier, the names of other senior party functionaries like RV Deshpande, HK Patil, TB Jayachandra, Basavaraj Rayareddi, BR Patil, and KN Rajanna were also being discussed for the post.

Khader is a sitting MLA from Mangalore Constituency in Dakshin Kannada district.
